Miami’s woes are back in full force.
The Miami Heat defeated the Brooklyn Nets 122-115 in the 2023-2024 NBA regular season on Sunday night at the Amway Center in Miami, Florida, USA. With the win, Miami extended its winning streak to seven games and moved into sole possession of third place in the Eastern Conference.
Ace Jimmy Butler put on a one-man show with 36 points and five rebounds, while Bam Adebayo chipped in with 20 points and seven rebounds.
But there was an unexpected hero. Duncan Robinson. Robinson was the second-leading scorer after Butler with 26 points and two assists on the night. He was highly efficient from three-point range, making six of 10 attempts. It wasn’t just his 3-point shooting that was impressive, but also his aggressiveness at the rim, where he attacked the basket and converted four free throws. Robinson was the key to Miami’s offense.
Robinson’s performance was not limited to this game. In his last three games, Robinson is averaging 23.3 points on 51% shooting from the field, 52% from three-point range, and 100% from the free throw line. Along with Butler and Adebayo, it’s safe to say that he’s the big three of Miami’s offense.
Robinson is no longer just a three-point shooter. His ball-handling skills are improving, and he has the vision and passing ability to set up his teammates. His handoff play with Adebayo is one of Miami’s best weapons. These improvements are a result of Robinson’s steady work on his game.
Robinson was pleased with his performance. In his postgame interview, Robinson said, “I’m happy with the way I’ve been playing lately. It’s nice to know that it’s not just me, it’s a team effort with my teammates, and I’m looking forward to continuing to play well.”
Miami’s 1-3 start to the season was cause for concern. Add to that the loss of Tyler Hiro, the team’s ace, to an ankle injury that will keep him out for an extended period of time, and Robinson has stepped in perfectly to fill the void. For Miami, the seven-game winning streak would not have been possible without Robinson’s performance. 캡틴토토
Robinson, who shocked the NBA with his breakout 2019-2020 season with Miami, is a free agent after the 2020-2021 season. The Heat offered a five-year, $90 million deal to retain Robinson, who had developed into one of the NBA’s best three-point shooters. But after re-signing, Robinson struggled. His three-point percentage dropped from over 40% to the low 30s, and his defense was still a hole.
That’s when Miami’s newly discovered shooter, Max Struth, came along and stole Robinson’s starting job. Robinson struggled to stay on the floor, let alone perform. NBA pundits labeled him as a bad signing. To a certain extent, they were right. Miami reached out to other teams about trading Robinson, but no one wanted him.
That’s why Robinson’s resurgence has been so spectacular so early in the season. Today, Robinson is not a shell of his former self, but an upgrade. If he continues to perform like this, Miami will have gotten an unexpected windfall.
